Study Finds Reduction in Teen Pregnancy due to MTV's 16 and Pregnant

[Via CNN] A new study by Professors of Wellesly College and the University of Maryland have found that the television show 16 and Pregnant has led to a 5.7% reduction in teen births in the 18 months following MTV’s premier of the show. The study looked at internet search data, tweets, and social media data related to the show and issues such as birth control, abortion, safe sex, and teenage pregnancy. The research made a correlation between the days and times that the show was on with search data related to teenage pregnancy. The study posits that around 20,000 teenage pregnancy births are not occurring as a result of the television show 16 and Pregnant.
