For many women, it's obvious that wearing a pair of high-heels, or even a pair narrow flats can lead to serious foot discomfort at the end of a long day of standing and walking. It is very well known throughout orthopedic podiatry that certain types of shoes can cause pain after short term and prolonged use.
The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in the United Kingdom has new 3-Dimensional technology that reveals and analyzes the detrimental effects of high-heels on feet. Many foot and ankle doctors use 2-Dimensional imaging systems such as x-rays and MRI's to understand a patient's problem. While these two technologies are very helpful and can lead to proper diagnosis, the curious mind of any physician always wants to see more! You could say that this advanced 3-D imaging system is, “a helpful foot forward” for doctors to see and understand a patient-specific problem; in this case high-heels.
